Human rights activists and journalists called the Palestinian leadership for going to the UN to get the full membership of Palestine in the General Assembly of the United Nations as a part of Palestinian strategy plan, not a tactic, or a political and diplomatic battle which culminating an end of the Israeli occupation and establish an independent state
They urged the leadership and the Palestinian factions to agree on a unified strategy and options and to put an end to the division and to complete the national unity that will be a requirement even more urgent in the day following the maturity of September.
They noted the positive results that will be realized in the event of UN Security Council or the General Assembly approved, about the Palestinian demand and get the194 seat of Member States of the United Nations, including its accession to international conventions and treaties and the signing of the internationalism advertising, and the prosecution of the occupation internationally, and others.
However, during a panel discussion organized by PICD in his headquarters in Gaza City on Tuesday, Human rights activists and journalists have warned of the risks and negative consequences that may arise in the event of failure of this step or not achieving the desired results.
They expressed their belief that the Palestinian leadership may be seeking to improve negotiations conditions with Israel, but not a political battle and popular with the occupation to end its existence and the illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land.
Yunis pointed to several factors played a role in going to the UN, including the "harvest of sins" for negotiations with Israel, which reached a dead end of the recognition of President Mahmoud Abbas, and failure to achieve reconciliation, and the lack of political costs as high as other options, including activation of the advisory opinion of the International court of Justice on the Apartheid Wall, and the activation of the "Goldstone report" about war crimes in Gaza.
"The Palestinian leadership is obliged to explain the strategy followed by the step in the direction of the United Nations, saying that the move comes in the context of a separate clash, and political conflict with Israel", Yunus stressed.
"This step as it is designed to de-legitimize the occupation, requires a minimum boycott of Israel", he said.
He warned of the potential risk to the Palestine Liberation Organization and its representation of the Palestinian people, which may result in fragmentation of this representation if the government has made a request for membership, but not a step that destroys the organization.
He also warned of the risks to the refugee issue, and wondered about the ability of "Palestinian state" to apply the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations on the ground and do not have independence and sovereignty in the event of being a full member, expressing his fear of the possibility of changing the legal status of the Palestinian territories as occupied territory.
"The decision of going to the United Nations imposed on the people and the Palestinian factions which found itself facing a reality and an option that force it defend itself", Okal said.
"The potential risks on the Palestinian cause in general and the refugee issue in particular, due to the presence of UN resolutions in this regard that nothing can cancel it, just the issuance of new resolutions and a new reference points, the step which have warned of the danger", Okal said.
Okal asked about the nature of the formula that will be submitted to the UN Security Council, and intentions that guide the direction of the Palestinian leadership, and whether the aim of this step is the transition from negotiation to clash with the occupation, using the political and legal tools, or to find a way out and solve the case of intractable negotiations?
He considered the Palestinian leadership is seeking to improve the conditions of the negotiations and not to the conflict and the clash with the occupation, stressing that the will of the leadership and its moves must be associated with this step and what is beyond to view the street attitude and reaction about the developments of events.
He believed that the leadership is still going on in the field of political illusions, describing the approach to the United Nations based on a promise from President Barack Obama and the Quartet that has "some of recklessness."
He pointed out to objections by a number of Palestinian forces on this step, expressing his appreciation of that, and called for rationalizing and not overstated.
"Negotiations cannot be resume with Israel in the coming years due to intransigence on Palestinian rights and the weakness of Obama and his inability to move it, and because the United States is no longer suitable for this file", Okal said.
But Okal see that the importance of this step is that it represents a review of the settlement process and the negotiations continuing for 20 years, and opens the way for a new type of conflict may be different from all previous forms, warning that Israel seeks to drag the Palestinians to violence and bloody conflict.
During the workshop, a number of journalists, media workers and human rights presented interventions and directed questions to Younis Okal.
"There is no information about the plans and the vision of President Abbas, there is no information about future plans", The director of the Foundation for Human Rights of Conscience, Khalil Abu Shamala said.
Abu Shamala described the attitudes of some factions," that they are not mature and the other as opportunistic, and wondered about the next step to go to the United Nations.
The journalist Samia al-Zubaidi questioned for several things, including whether the information was in turn due September or not? Did President Abbas' decision is correct to go to the United Nations, What if he apply fpr a membership does not satisfy the supporting factions of this step, and what about fragmenting the unity of the representation of the Palestinians?
Mustafa Ibrahim, human rights activist, considered leadership disappeared media in all national issues, and that there is unjustified ambiguity surrounding this approach, and we do not know the nature and status of the request by President Abbas to the United Nations.
The journalist Talat al_Agha astonished the continuing of the division and separation between the West bank and Gaza strip?
"Did they build the institutions of the coming state or not, and how it will deal with them in case they got full membership without the sovereignty?", the journalist Lyal Qudaih wondered.
The head of the Board of Directors of PICD the journalist Fathi Sabah, who moderated the panel discussion several questions about the maturity of September and go to the United Nations, stressing that the objective of the discussion to shed light on all aspects of the case, especially the legal and political way to the media and journalists, and present clear image to the Palestinian people for the reality of this step.
During workshop, Sabah asked about the positive and negative aspects of the "maturity of September" and things which are expected in the coming days, leaving the answers to the main speakers, Issam Younis ,the Co-Director of Almezan Center for Human Rights, and Talal Okal the journalist, writer and political analyst.
